Five-Star campers "bring it" during Championship Week.
When it counts the most, Five-Star players deliver.
John Wall 6'4" Freshman Kentucky

John Wall scored 7 of his 17 points in OT to beat Mississippi State 75-74 in the SEC final. He aslo added 9 assists and 6 rebounds. Kentucky heads into the NCAA tournament with a record of 32-2 and is predicted to land a number-one seed and most likely the top overall seed of the tournament. WWe remember Wall's time at Five-Star like it was yesterday. We knew he would be good, but just how good was the question.
Darington Hobson 6'7" Junior New Mexico

Two-time Five-Star camper Darrington Hobson logged 28 points and 15 rebounds in a 75-69 victory over Air Force in the Mountain West Conference playoffs. Hobson, from Las Vegas, was named the Mountain West Player of the Year. His Lobos are 29-3 and will look to make some noise in the NCAA tournament.
Chris Wright 6'1" Junior Georgetown

Georgetown head coach John Thompson said, "We go as this guy goes." Another Five-Star camper led his team to a significant victory. The Hoyas beat the #1 seed Syracuse 91-84 at Madison Square Garden in NY. Chris Wright, a 6'1" junior, scored 27 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds. In addition, he had countless big plays leading his team on both ends of the floor. "We didn't come here just to beat Syracuse," Chris Wright said. "We came here to win the whole thing. It's not time to get excited yet." Wright did all he can in the Big East final but fell short to West Virginia. Wright compiled 20 points and 7 assists in the 60-58 loss. Keep your eye on Wright in the NCAA tournament. Wright is from Bowie, MD and attended St. John's Catholic in Washington, DC.
Lazar Hayward 6'5" Senior Marquette

Five-Star campers play hard, display toughness and show emotion. Lazar Hayward defines those attributes! The 6'6" senior from Buffalo, NY and Notre Prep (MA) played at Five-Star like he did tonight-HARD! Hayward led Marquette to the Big East Tournament semi-finals with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Hayward earned 2nd team All Big East but it can be argued that he had a Player of the Year type season.
Lance Stephenson 6'5" Freshman Cincinnati

After hitting the winning free throw the night before against Rutgers to advance in the Big East tournament, Lance Stephenson did all he could to defeat West Virginia tonight. The Bearcats fell short by a last second 3pt bank shot 54-51. A Five-Star camper, Stephenson scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Tweety Carter 5'11" SR Baylor

Tweety Carter hit three 3pt baskets and scored 20 points to lead his Baylor Bears past Texas for the 3rd time this season. Carter attended Reserve Christian in Reserve, LA. Tweety Carter not only attended Five-Star as a camper but he joined teammate Epke Udoh and worked as a counselor at our Baylor camp.
Ekpe Udoh 6'10" Junior Baylor

Epke Udoh did his part to help Baylor beat Texas tonight 86-67. The Bears shot 53% from the floor and Udoh's 9-14 from the field had a lot to do with that stat. Epke Udoh transferred from the University of Michigan and attended high school in Edmond, OK. Udoh finished the game with 25 points and 8 rebounds.
Curtis Kelly 6'8" Junior Kansas State

Kurtis Kelly spent a lot of time on the court at Five-Star. He has continued to improve his game and it is all coming together right now! Kelly's active and athletic game in paying dividends in the stat sheet. Kelly finished tonight with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks. His Kansas State team beat Oklahoma State 83-64. Kelly is from the Bronx, NY and attended Rice High School in NYC. Kelly transferred from UConn to Kansas State where things are working out quite well for him.
Corey Stokes 6'5" Junior Villanova
Villanova's Corey Stokes played well in an 80-76 loss to a tough Marquette team. Stokes is from Bayonne, NJ and attended Five-Star as camper while at St. Benedicts prep. He scored 22 points and grabbed 5 rebounds tonight.
Antonio Pena 6'8" Junior Villanova

Five-Star camper Antonio Pena played very well in the Big East Tournament loss to Marquette. Pena attended St. Thomas More prep in CT after excelling at Brooklyn, NY power Lincoln High School. Pena had 14 points and 6 rebounds.
Derrick Caracter 6'8" Junior UTEP

Derrick Caracter transferred from Louisville to UTEP and has settled into the player that we knew he could be. Caracter's time at Five-Star showed unlimited promise and it was just a matter of time before he hit his stride. Caracter's 18 points and 9 rebounds against Houston was not enough to win the Conference USA title. But Caracter's 'Miners are poised to get a great seed in the NCAA tournament. Caracter will surely be one-to-watch next week.
David Gonzalvez 6'4" Senior Richmond

The Richmond Spiders showed that they are a team to be feared in the NCAA tournament. David Gonzalvez led his team past Xavier in a tough, hard fought game. The Spiders will face Temple on Sunday for the Atlantic 10 championship. Gonzalvez in another example of a Five-Star camper that has stepped up and delivered for his team. Gonzalvez had 26 points against Xavier. David Gonzalvez is from Wheeler High School in GA and attended Notre Dame Prep.
Nick Vier 6'3 Senior Vermont

Hardworking, tough, smart and skilled. The mantra is repeated every session and every year of the Five-Star Basketball Camp. No camper has embraced these traits more than Nick Vier. Vier is from Franklin Lakes, NJ and attended Bergen Catholic. The Vermont Catamounts have made the NCAA tournament and they couldn't have done it without the play and leadership of Nick Vier. Vier was an efficient 4-4 from 3pt range and finished with 15 points
Corey Lowe 6'2" Senior Boston University

Corey Lowe has scored more than 1660 points in his career at BU. Lowe's 24 points was not enough as his Terrier's lost at Vermont in the America East final. Lowe's career has not gone unnoticed. A graduate of Newton North High School in Massachusetts, Lowe was a terrific Five-Star camper. We with him lots of luck at the "next level."
David Lighty 6'5" Junior Ohio State

David Lighty has fought injuries and has bounced back to be the heart and soul of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Lighty scored 12 points but we were most impressed with Lighty's defense and leadership. Lighty was a Five-Star camper and graduated from St. Joseph's in the Cleveland area. Lighty will be the key to Ohio States success in the tournament.
Durand Scott 6'3" Freshman Miami (FL)

It is rare that freshman step up during Championship Week, but Durand Scott got it done in the ACC tournament. The Hurricanes pushed Duke as far as they could falling 77-74. Against Duke Scott contributed 21 points. Scott is from New York, NY and attended Rice High School. Keep your eye on this Five-Star camper; he will be an elite ACC player!
Malcolm Grant 6'1" Sophomore Miami (FL)

Brooklyn native Malcolm Grant made his way to Miami from Winchendon Prep and Villanova. This Five-Star camper chipped in 17 points in the loss to Duke in the ACC semifinal. He joins New Yorker Durand Scott in Miami backcourt for the next two seasons. Keep an eye on him!
Nolan Smith 6'2" Junior Duke

Nolan Smith is known for his double-double mentality. He is athletic and defends on the perimeter as well as in the paint. Smith was this type of player as a camper at Five-Star. Against Miami, Smith had 12 points. The Blue Devils need to get past Georgia Tech in order to win the ACC tournament and head into the NCAA tournament with a number one seed. Nolan Smith is from Upper Marlboro, MD and attended Oak Hill Academy in VA.
